The accused killer of conservative figure the political commentator appeared to claim responsibility for the shooting on the messaging platform the chat app, a platform representative has confirmed.

According to the representative, the 22-year-old suspect messaged acquaintances in a group on Discord hours prior to he was arrested recently in connection with the attack on Kirk at an gathering at Utah Valley University.

"It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for everything," states a message from an account that allegedly is linked to Mr Robinson, according to the spokesperson and a official insider.

Mr Robinson, who has still not been officially indicted, is scheduled to face a judge on this week.

Arrested on allegations of aggravated murder, illegal use of a weapon and obstruction of justice, he could face the capital punishment.

The online communications believed to be from the accused, initially revealed by the a major newspaper, are thought to have been composed and shared near the conclusion of a search for Kirk's killer that continued more than a day.

The victim, 31, who was a controversial figure in American political circles and a trusted ally of President Donald Trump, was speaking at the educational institution on Wednesday at an open-air event organized by Turning Point USA - the entity he helped establish - when he was struck in the upper body by a single bullet.

The death of the well-known social media personality provoked anger, with political rivals blaming each other of promoting hateful rhetoric, and a hunt for his assailant.

Law enforcement sources have stated that Mr Robinson and his associates exchanged messages about the shooting before his arrest in a group chat on the platform involving more than twenty people.

The spokesperson for the platform clarified that an internal investigation had found "nothing to suggest that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on our service".

The individual is reportedly questioned by others in the group about whether he was the shooter, which he seemingly acknowledged, and there were also jokes from a participant about him needing to avoid McDonald's.

Communications from the account linked to the suspect also indicate that he was intending to surrender to authorities.

"im surrendering via a law enforcement contact in a few moments, thank you for the memories and fun, you've all been so wonderful, gratitude to everyone for everything," states a message.

It was stated that the accused was refusing to collaborate with officials but his roommate was among those who were.

Authorities have been trying to establish a reason for the shooting.

Public records examined indicate that the suspect had in the past been listed as an nonpartisan elector.

Nevertheless, according to reports, a family member told investigators that he had become "more political" in recent years and had brought up the upcoming event during a dinner.

Among the former president’s key aides has claimed there was an coordinated effort behind the killing but nothing concrete has been provided so far that suggests the suspect was working as part of a larger network.

Law enforcement are also examining social media accounts used by the accused, and any indications that others may have known about or supported the shooting beforehand.

Kirk, a religious individual, was a strong supporter of gun rights, strongly against abortion, was critical of transgender and gay rights, and shared misinformation about the pandemic.

Those who admired him stated he was relatable, empathized with their concerns and was able to hold civil discussions with those he disagreed with.

However, his opinions drew strong opposition from progressives, with his critics calling his comments deeply offensive to some communities, including the LGBTQ+ community and Muslims.

Turning Point USA, which he co-founded, aimed to spread conservative ideals at liberal-leaning US colleges, and played a significant part in getting people to vote for Trump and other GOP contenders in the vote recently.
