A further senior Tory figure has switched allegiance to Nigel Farage’s party, with former health minister Maria Caulfield revealing she joined in recent weeks.

New Challenge for the Conservatives

Even though Caulfield lost her status as an MP after losing her former seat to the Liberal Democrats last year, her move constitutes a further challenge for the Tories, coming just a day after another defection by a sitting Tory MP.

Several of high-ranking party members have shifted over in the past few months, although as of now only a single remains in the House of Commons.

The Former Minister’s Statement

“If you are Conservative right-minded, then where things are headed is Reform. The country is going to undergo major shifts.”

Caulfield continued: “Individuals who believed that Brexit would not happen are convinced that the party will not happen. They will receive a reality check.”

She confirmed that she signed up four weeks back, noting that her husband had enrolled some time earlier.

“I am sad for the party. I could see that I have not changed, but Conservative leadership has become progressively reflective of my beliefs.”

Caulfield argued that they failed the public over leaving the EU, particularly on legislation, finances, and immigration. “We regained sovereignty, but we failed to do anything regarding it.”

Speaking about the party, she commented: “The focus of Reform is changing the system – the system won’t shift unless a new approach is taken.”

Next Steps

Caulfield suggested that she might she could attempt to return as an MP with the party, adding: “It depends on what transpires.”

Party’s Approach

Even though Reform is hesitant of accepting a large number of former Conservative MPs, as it could be portrayed as a dumping ground for defeated MPs, the organization is mindful that it lacks experience in running the country.

Experienced politicians would provide this.

Recent Defections

Another current Tory MP, formerly acting as an aide to ex-Prime Minister Johnson, in the past day defected to Reform and was assigned as the director of “getting ready to govern”.

“The Conservative party is finished. It has ceased to be a national party, over as the main counter to the left.”

Even while his defection, the MP made an effort to refrain from attack the current party head, saying that she had “done an admirable job in very difficult circumstances”.

He added: “Personally, I believe she’s exhibited true grit and fortitude. It’s not my intention to criticize her individually. In my opinion anyone leading would have had a tough time over the recent months.”

“I do disagree with the approach. It’s my belief what she ought to have pursued is a significantly bold assertion of traditional conservative ideals.”

“Yet now we are here, It’s not merely about leaving the Tories, in fact, I’m fully supporting the leader and the Reform party, who I think have shown over the recent months that they have emerged as a real, serious opposition group.”
